BYPL ties-up with L&T to provide ELCB’s to customers

• BYPL’ initiative on ELCB’s a first for a utility in India

We cannot imagine life without electricity. From mundane activities like making toasts to washing and ironing clothes, to entertainment, our dependence on electricity is increasing by the day. But in case of an earth leakage, this very electricity may turn simple everyday appliances into objects of dread – giving electric shocks, causing serious injury.

These shocks and mishaps can be avoided by installing an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB). This useful device detects even a small “current to earth” (earth leakage) at one’s premises, automatically tripping and disconnecting the electricity supply to the premises / equipment, thus preventing serious mishaps.

Installing an Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB) can help avoid shocks and mishaps. According to Section 61 A of the Indian Electricity Rules, 1956 and DERC regulations, it is also mandatory for all consumers, having an electricity load of 5 kW and above, to have an ELCB installed at their premises.

BYPL innovative tie-up with Larsen & Toubro (L&T)

Keeping the safety of its consumers in mind, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has tied-up with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) - to bring its customers in East and Central Delhi - a unique offer on the state-of-the-art ELCB’s. These L&T ELCB’s have an in-built MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) – offering double protection to consumers against electricity related incidents. BYPL has become the first utility in the country to launch such an initiative and reach out to customers on an important safety related aspect.

According to Mr Ramesh Narayanan, CEO BYPL, “ELCBs are very essential for the safety of one and all. It is strongly recommended to install them to save precious lives from any electricity related incidents”.

This is a very small price to pay for safety and peace of mind”, added Mr Narayanan.

BYPL consumers in East and Central Delhi, having a load of more than 5 KW will soon be getting a communication in this regard. BYPL’ authorized agents would be visiting the premises of consumers (having a load of 5 KW or above) to offer the scheme in person. To avail the offer, they simply have to give their consent to the BYPL authorised representative. Alternatively, they can also call 39999808 or visit a BYPL customer care centre.

“This offer is available to both new and existing customers of BYPL. Even those customers who do not have a sanctioned load of 5kW or above, can also avail this offer. It is a voluntary initiative and consumers are free to avail such services without any compulsion”, said a BYPL official.
