New Delhi, September 10, 2010 Press Release
Power On: Electricity reaches East Delhi's last ‘un-electrified’ post - Badarpur Khadar
BSES reaches power to this Yamuna separated enclave of Delhi via Uttar Pradesh
Project Badarpur Khadar cost Rs 6.6 crore
Infrastructure created keeping in-mind the future requirements of the area in mind:
400 KV transformer set-up
Around 200 electricity poles erected
Over 16 kms of High Tension Ariel Bunch Cables (HTAB) laid
11 KV sub-station set-up
Residents were living without any form of electricity in the area
For reliability, electricity being supplied through 2 different sources – 1 primary and another back-up
Surrounded by Uttar-Pradesh (UP) on three-sides and river Yamuna on the fourth, Badarpur-Khadar is a small hamlet on the eastern-most fringes of Delhi. Till recently, it was also the last ‘un-electrified’ area of East Delhi. But not any more! Despite the odds and difficulties, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has now electrified the area and created the electricity distribution infrastructure at a cost of Rs 6.6 crore. This is also perhaps the only area in the country, where electricity will be supplied by cutting-across the boundary of another state- in this case UP.
Though the electrification of the area will be formally inaugurated by Shri Jai Prakash Aggarwal, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) shortly, BYPL on the eve of Eid today, started giving out connections to the residents.
Badarpur Khadar is predominantly occupied by economically weaker sections of the society. The main reason for this mystifying delay was that though the area is very-much part of Delhi, its access is through another state. This area of Delhi is over 8 kms inside the boundary of Uttar Pradesh. BYPL was successful in being able to lay its network in the area – through Uttar Pradesh – due to the sustained efforts of MP Shri JP Aggarwal, whose interventions helped the project get right of way permissions from UP.
To set-up the ‘green-field’ electricity distribution in Badarpur-Khadar, BYPL has erected 200 odd electricity poles and laid over 16 kms of electricity High Tension Aerial Bunch (HTAB) cables. Three Low Tension (LT) Switchgears and one High Tension (HT) Switchgear have also been installed. Even though the load requirement at present is not very high, but keeping in mind the future requirements, the company has set-up a 400 KV transformer. For ensuring reliable power supply, electricity to the area is being supplied through two different sources – C Block Dayalpur and Karawal Nagar Feeders - one primary and another back-up.
According to BYPL CEO Shri Ramesh Narayanan, “Being land-locked by UP on all sides, it was a real challenge to provide electricity in Badarpur Khadar. We have been able to create our electricity distribution network and supply electricity in the area due to sustained efforts of Shri Aggarwal. Since we had to transcend the boundary of UP, his sustained efforts helped iron-out all issues”.
“With electrification of Badarpur Khadar, BYPL has been able to ensure ‘electricity to all’ in BYPL’ licensed area, well ahead of the 2012 target set by the Prime Minister for the country”, added Shri Narayanan.
BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
