Your
August Electricity Bill – Know the Facts
- BSES has close to 25 lakh registered consumers.
- Around 90,000 of our Three Phase (11 KW and above) Domestic
consumer – just about 3 % of our consumer base and largely based in South
and Central Delhi – got an abnormally low bill in July. This was due to an
inadvertent glitch in the System which randomly pulled up an arbitrary
date, instead of the regular variable date (based on the date of the meter
reading).
- It is only these 90,000 consumers who received
a “higher” electricity bill in August 2009. This is because their August
bill is actually showing two months (July-August) consumption (instead of
the usual one month).
- Every such bill explains that a charge with applicable slab
discounts has been provided for. Payments made by consumers in July are reflected
as Negative arrears and Net Payable amount have been reduced to that
extent. (In simple terms the August bill shows the consumption of two
months and also adjusts any payment made for the July bill)
- Being a transparent company, BSES has made full
disclosure to the above effect in the August bill. We request our esteemed
consumers to read the details and understand their respective bills – as
they have been charged for ONLY what they have consumed. Consumers may
compare their combined bill of July-August with that of the corresponding
period last year.
- However, if any doubt persists in the mind of any consumer, please
contact your respective DGM (Business), whose number is printed on your
bill. If you are still have any queries, please feel free to write to BSES
CEO, at ceo@bsesdelhi.com.
- Meanwhile, the payment dates for all such
consumers have been extended to 21 September 2009, without late payment
surcharge (LPSC).
- These esteemed consumers are also requested to ignore any
disconnection notice that they may have received in the interim.
Other
reasons that could have contributed to a higher bill:
- The 10 percent subsidy came to an end on May 31st.
All bills from billing date of June 1 onwards are higher to that extent. If a consumer is consuming above 400 units, they are
now paying 55 paise per unit more.
- Excessive use of AC’s and Refrigerators in the
wake of the unprecedented heat wave. So much was the heat that the built
in thermostats, hardly triggered
- Moreover, Refrigerators, ACs etc would
consume significantly more energy per hour of usage, if the ambient
temperatures and humidity increases.
- Last summers, people who were accustomed to use
their AC’s at 25 Degree, started using their AC at 18 Degrees
“Apologizing for the inconvenience caused and explaining
the entire issue,” a BSES spokesperson said that “BSES is getting in touch with
each of these 90,000 consumers through a written communication.” Every effort
would be made to address the concerns of our esteemed consumers, he added.
BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is
committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its
consumers.
