Both the awards were presented to BSES at a glittering ceremony organized by  the International Data Group (IDG) held over the weekend (September 5 and 6, 2008) in Jaipur’s (Rajasthan) Jaigargh Fort.

With these two awards, BSES has received three prestigious and internationally recogonised awards in less than a month. Earlier in August 2008, Reliance Energy Ltd / BSES were conferred the prestigious Environmental Systems Research Institute’s (ESRI) “Special Achievement in GIS” award in a glittering ceremony in San Diego, USA.

International Data Group’s (IDG) CIO 100 Award

Incidentally, this is the second consecutive year; the CIO 100 award has been conferred on BSES. Last year, the award was presented to BSES for the leadership role of IT in the implementation of SCADA and its integration with SAP, GIS and OMS.

“BSES was awarded the CIO 100 2008 Award for successfully implementing its AMR Project. In the first phase of the project, BSES has deployed CDMA/GSM based AMR meters at the premises of thousands of its Key customers - having an electricity load of 45 KW and above and all its 118 Grid sub stations. In due course, the scope of the AMR project will be further expanded to include other category of customers”, said Mr Karan Singh, Vice President & Head of BSES’s IT department..

“BSES’ state-of-the-art AMR technology eliminates all manual interference – thus removing any possibility of an incorrect meter reading. The readings are transmitted to the central BSES server –in real time. Any aberration and breach in any of the pre set parameters is flagged at the BSES end, helping in quicker corrective action being taken. This also helps in preventing theft”, added the official.

The competition, this year was very tough. BSES’ AMR project was selected from amongst the hundreds of entries received. Some of the other prominent winners for 2008 include Ambuja Cements Ltd, Asian Paints (India) Ltd, Bharti Airtel Limited, Ericsson India Pvt Ltd among others.

The CIO 100 Award – prestigious and internationally recognized – has been instituted by the International Data Group’s (IDG) CIO magazine – a widely read and respected IT magazine. The awards are given to organizations that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in IT. This year’s theme, “Bold 100”, recognized organizations who embrace great challenges and risks for the sake of great rewards.

Originally started in the United States of America, CIO 100 Awards are in their 21st year now. Today, they are hosted in many countries including Canada, Sweden, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Hungary. This is the third year of the awards in India.
