BSES Enforcement Teams have recently apprehended Commercial and Industrial units – engaged in the manufacture of Cycle Parts, Electrical Switches and Shoe Uppers / Caps – using stolen power. In two separate raids in East and West Delhi, BRPL and BYPL Enforcement teams have unearthed power theft amounting to over 110 KW.

East Delhi – Cycle part manufacturer, stealing power using “imported” gadget caught stealing 50 KW

Acting on a tip off, BSES Enforcement Teams caught Bhasin Industries – a manufacturer of cycle parts in 25/5A Gali No 17 Vishwas Nagar – stealing over 50 KW of electricity by way of deliberately slowing his meter. At first, when the Enforcement Team raided the unit, nothing was found amiss. Though the meter was found to be very slow, there were no visible signs of meter tampering. Even the meter seals were seemingly found to be intact. Foxed, the Enforcement Teams called experts from BSES’ Meter Departments. A careful second inspection by the experts revealed that a tiny state-of-the-art device – not commonly found in Delhi – was installed within the meter to slow it down. And after installation of the device, the seals were re-fixed. According to the provisions of the Indian Electricity Act, a penalty of Rs 20 lakh is being imposed on the accused.

West Delhi – A 50 strong joint contingent of BSES Enforcement, CISF and Delhi Police unearths power theft in 10 places in Sewak Park (Vikaspuri), including units manufacturing Electrical Switches and Sockets and Shoe Uppers and Caps

An over 50 strong joint contingent of BSES Enforcement, CISF and Delhi Police carried out a series of successful raids in the high theft prone areas of Sewak Park, Vikaspuri and unearthed 64 KW of power theft at 10 places. Of the 10 places raided, all were found to be indulging in direct theft of electricity by hooking into the nearby BSES LV Mains. Eight of them were domestic users.

Two of these places were mid sized units engaged in the manufacture of Electrical switches and Sockets and Shoe uppers and Caps. Despite having BSES electricity meters, they had by passed the meters. They are being penalised as per the applicable provisions of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003.

BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers.
