Darshan Singh – an accused and one of the persons shown on a sting operation (aired by a local news Channel and wrongly – perhaps mischievously – identified as a BSES employee about a fortnight ago) has been arrested by the Police. The other two accused – Sandeep Singh and Aslam are however, still absconding. The arrest was made after BYPL lodged an FIR 381/07 at the Shahdara Police Station.

The accused, masquerading as BSES employees along with his accomplices, were shown on the “sting” operation, tampering the electricity meter, intimidating and extorting money from a Shahdara resident. All the persons, as stated in the subsequent press statement by BSES, were imposters and had nothing to do with it.

Meanwhile, BSES’ Vigilance team, based on a complaint from an alert customer (name withheld on request) has apprehended two imposters in West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area. The customer (a husband/wife couple) had contacted BSES, complaining that two persons, claiming to be BSES employees have come to their residence, claiming their meter is tampered and they was liable to pay heavy penalties. They had also apparently offered to settle the case Rs 10,000. BSES official, in turn, advised the couple to engage the duo and keep them busy till the arrival of a BSES Vigilance. A BSES Vigilance Team, shortly reached the venue, and apprehended the duo. As suspected, the duo, identified as Mukesh and Ajay Kumar, were imposters and was masquerading as BSES officials. They were later handed over to the Paschim Vihar Police.

On questioning the imposters and the couple, it was learnt that Mukesh and Ajay Kumar visited the customers residence, earlier also. They managed to scare the customers’ gullible wife with their talk about the tampered meter and huge penalties. The customer’s wife had agreed to “settle” the case for Rs 10,000 and paid the duo, Rs 5,000 as the first installment. Later the customer realized that the duo may be imposters and called BSES, when the duo came to collect the balance amount.
