After crackdown, Jeans Factory Owners promise to take legal electricity connections

BYPL CEO meets Special Commissioner of Delhi Police on controlling power-theft

Enforcement Raids being undertaken by BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) along with the Delhi Police personnel against power theft in East and Central Delhi has started having the desired impact. Now owners of Jeans factories (stealing electricity) – in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar area have come forward and promised to take legal connections. These illegal factories are stealing electricity to the tune of 5000 KW per month, causing a loss of Rs 2 crore per month to BYPL.

BYPL’ crackdown against power-theft in the last 15 days in East and Central Delhi has unearthed power theft of whopping 3789 KW. The company has also levied penalties of over Rs 4.50 crore against them. If these penalties are not paid within a stipulated period of time, cases will be filed in the Special Court of Electricity, where the accused, besides being levied stiff penalties, can also get jail terms of upto 5 years.

In the last few days, BYPL’ enforcement teams have undertaken action against the illegal Jeans factory’s in East Delhi’s Krishna Nagar-Seelempur-Yamuna Vihar Areas and unearthed power-theft of over 35 KW. Not only that! BYPL’ enforcement teams, which were accompanied by Delhi Police personnel, faced stiff resistance from the local hooligans – orchestrated, no doubt, by the factory owners.

Despite the resistance, the teams managed to unearth power-theft, thereby giving a clear message to the factory owners that raids against them will not stop. It was also made clear to the factory owners, either they take legal connections or get ready to face stiff penalties and jail terms.

Recently, BYPL CEO Mr Ramesh Narayanan met Special Commissioner of Police and apprised him and seek assistance in controlling power-theft. Post the meeting; BYPL has intensified its anti-power theft campaign in East and Central Delhi. The Special Commissioner was also apprised, of the large scale power-theft being undertaken by the illegal jeans factories in Krishna Nagar-Seelempur-Yamuna Vihar Areas.
