BYPL’ Diwali Gift for Delhiites, Discounted LED’s and CFL’s,

Ties-up with German lighting major Osram

On the eve of the festival of lights – Diwali, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) has tied-up with the German lighting major Osram to bring the next-generation LED’s and CFL’s for Delhiites. Under the offer, Delhiites can buy these LED’s and CFL’s at heavily discounted prices. That’s not all! On purchase of a LED bulb, a consumer will get a free 15 Watt CFL.

A USP of this offer is that it is not confined to BYPL customers of East and Central Delhi. All Delhiites can avail this offer. This is for the first time that such a ‘pan Delhi’ offer is being made by a discom. This is also first offer of its kind offer, where both CFL’s and LED’s will be offered simultaneously.

Talking about the scheme, a BYPL official informed that this unique offer will be available for a two months period, starting October 13, 2011. Special stalls will be put-up at all the 14 BYPL division offices in East and Central Delhi. All the CFL’s and LED’s will be backed by replacement guarantees.

Talking about the scheme, BYPL CEO Mr Ramesh Narayanan said “One can save 1 kg of coal by conserving 1 unit of electricity. One must remember that a 40 Watt tube light consumes around 15 Kgs of coal in a month. If 40 lakh Delhi consumers choose to simply replace two 40 Watt tube lights with two 15 Watt CFL’s, they will be able to save 1 lakh tonne’s of coal annually. This will not only reduce pollution significantly, but also leave fossil fuels for the next generation”.

It is our moral responsibility to replace ordinary tube lights with energy efficient CFL’s and LED’s”, he added.

Delhiites desirous of availing LED’s and CFL’s at discounted prices can do so by visiting the special kiosks, put-up at BYPL divisions offices between 9 am and 3 pm. These division offices are located in Daryaganj, Krishna Nagar, Chandini Chowk, Yamuna Vihar, Nand Nagri, Laxmi Nagar, Patel Nagar, Mayur Vihar -1,2 and 3, Jhilmil, Shankar Road, Paharganj, G T Road and Karawal Nagar.

These next generation LED bulbs fit perfectly into existing screw-in light sockets and create clean, bright light level, equivalent to that of a conventional incandescent bulb. Even when compared to a CFL, they use significantly less electricity and contain no mercury.  They also have a significantly longer life span than both CFL’s and Incandescent Bulbs - the average life span of a LED is around 50,000 hours verses 8,000 hours for a CFL and 1,000 hours for an incandescent bulb.

According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) statistics, using a 100 Watt incandescent bulb for 2 hours a daily uses around 73 units annually. Whereas a 5 Watt LED uses just about 3.65 units in a year.

According to a BYPL spokesperson, “Using a 100 Watt Incandescent bulb for about 8 hours daily will consume electricity of around Rs 120 per month. Using a 40 Watt tube light will consume electricity for Rs 50 per month. On the other hand, using a 15 Watt CFL will consume electricity of around Rs 20. And a 5 Watt LED will consume electricity of just about Rs 5. Imagine the potential savings by switching to LED’s and CFL’s.

BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
