Special Court sends 6 to Tihar

3 get bail – but only after depositing Rs 2.35 lakh, and after spending varied jail terms

 

  • In separate cases, six power thieves, including owner of a Jeans washing and dyeing unit sent to Tihar
  • 3 of the 6 accused granted bail, but only after paying bail amounts between Rs 60,000 and 1 Lakh

 

In five separate cases, six persons, including owner of a Jeans Washing and Dyeing unit, have been sent to Tihar jail – for varied terms. All were caught by BSES Enforcement teams for stealing electricity between 9 KW and 38 KW in East and Central Delhi. Though, three of the six accused, were granted bail – till the next hearing of their respective cases – by the Special Court, they were directed to pay stiff bail amounts ranging between Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh after being in jail for a few days.

 

Two persons, including owner of mid-sized Jeans Washing and Dyeing unit – stealing 14 KW of electricity sentenced to Tihar for a 14 days jail term

 

Two persons, including the owner of a mid sized Jeans Washing and Dyeing unit were sentenced by the Special Court of Electricity, Patparganj to Tihar Jail for a period of 14 days.

 

Earlier a BSES Enforcement raid, accompanied by CISF and Delhi Police personnel on 30 November 2006, had caught Ajay and Jaggan stealing over 14 KW of power. While Ajay, owner of the mid sized Jeans washing and dyeing unit, located at 4774, School Wali Gali, Seelampur, was charged with direct theft of electricity, Jaggan, his accomplice, on the other hand, was charged with abetment of power theft.

 

Ajay and Jaggan were stealing electricity by ingeniously by passing BSES’ electricity meter and illegally tapping into the service line. Subsequently, Ajay and his accomplice Jaggan were slapped with a power theft penalty bill of Rs 5.14 lakh. When the duo failed to deposit the penalty by the stipulated date, a FIR was lodged against them at the local Police Station.

 

A resident of Gandhi Nagar – caught stealing 10.6 KW of power sent to Tihar Jail for 14 days

 

The Special Court of electricity sentenced Sanjay alias Sanjeev – a resident of 9/4766 Gali No 1, Old Seelampur to Tihar Jail for 14 days. He was earlier caught stealing 10.6 KW of electricity for commercial purposes. No electricity meter was found at the premises. At the time of the inspection, the accused had also refused to sign the inspection report prepared by the Enforcement teams. Subsequently a penalty amount of Rs 3.94 lakh was slapped on him. When the accused did not pay the fine till the stipulated date, a FIR was lodged against him. The accused was then arrested by the Police and produced before the Special Court.

 

 

 

 

Resident of Chauhan Bazar caught stealing 38 KW power and absconding arrested and produced before the Special Court. Granted bail only after paying Rs1 lakh as bail amount

 

Ismail, a resident of C 53/9 Gali No 6, Chauhan Bazar, was granted bail, but only after he paid the Special Court mandated bail amount of Rs 1 lakh.

 

The accused had earlier been caught stealing 38 KW of electricity for commercial purposes by BSES Enforcement Teams. He was subsequently penalised Rs 15 lakh. Later, when the accused did not pay the penalty amount by the stipulated date, BSES lodged a FIR at the local Police Station. But the accused went into hiding and continued to evade arrest by the Police. Only when the Special Court issued orders for attachment of Ismail’s property, did the he surface and presented himself before the Police. He was then arrested and produce before the Special Court.

 

Resident of Gujjar Mohalla, Hohrirpur- caught stealing electricity, arrested and produced before the Special Court. Granted bail only after paying Rs 75,000 as bail and spending 5 days in Tihar jail

 

Vijender – a resident of 30, Jiley Singh Gujjar Mohalla, Hohripur was earlier caught by BSES Enforcement Teams stealing electricity. Subsequently, he was slapped with a penalty of  around Rs 5 lakh. In this case too, when the accused failed to deposit the penalty amount till the stipulated date, BSES moved the Special Court. The Special Court, rejecting the application moved by the accused, directed the Police to produce the accused before itself. The accused was then ordered to be taken into custody and later sent to Tihar. Later after spending five days in Jail, and paying the bail amount of Rs 75,000, the accused was released, till the next hearing of the case.

 

Owner of an Iron steam plant caught stealing 14 KW of power, arrested and produced before the Special Court. Granted bail only after paying Rs 60,000 as bail and spending 10 days in Tihar Jail.

 

Ram Avtar, a resident of 4769 Ground Floor, Seelampur, was granted bail by the Special Court of Electricity. But this, only after he had spent 10 days in Tihar Jail and paid Rs 60,000 as the bail amount.

 

The accused had earlier been caught stealing 14 KW of electricity for running an iron steam plant by a BSES Enforcement Team. Subsequently, when the accused had failed to deposit the penalty amount (slapped on him by BSES) of Rs 6.09 lakh by the stipulated date, BSES lodged a complaint at the Gandhi Nagar Police Station. The accused was then arrested and produced before the Special Court.
