BRPL geared up to meet Winter peak load,

Makes arrangements for 5% additional buffer

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) has made more than adequate arrangements to source power to meet the peak demand of its nearly 15 lakhs consumers during the ensuing winter months. While making these arrangements, taking a cue from the past experience and factoring in the last minute unforeseen constraints, the company is ensuring a buffer of 3-5% over and above the anticipated demand.

BRPL CEO Gopal Saxena mentioned that this buffer will ensure that the company is not caught unawares, should the demand be higher than expected.  The power demand this winter in Delhi and BRPL licensed area is expected to go upto 3300 MW and 1450 MW respectively. BRPL has made firm arrangements to cater to this demand by contracting bi-lateral purchases- even at higher rates as may be necessary to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Following are some of the tie-ups that BRPL has made.

Over and above this, BRPL has also drawn a plan to bank surplus power during the lean periods of the winter months. This power will be made available for BRPL customers during the peak summer months. An innovative method of banking is being adopted to reduce the burden of cost on the BRPL consumer. Under this arrangement relatively cheaper power is procured on a round the clock basis and a part of it is banked with an enroute state to reduce transmission losses as well as the open access charges. Some of the details of these arrangements are as follows:
