  • BSES emerges as one of India’s top three companies for having successfully implemented AMR for its Key Consumers and Grids
  • This year’s IT User Awards are recognising organizations that have used IT to improve their efficiency and  competitiveness

BSES has been declared as one of the three finalists in the “Energy and Utility” vertical in the prestigious “NASSCOM CNBC TV 18 IT User Awards 2009”. The other two finalists in this category are Reliance Infra and HPCL.

The winner will announced in a much awaited ceremony, on 2 December 2009 at the Taj Landsend, Mumbai. This is the second time in as many years; NASSCOM had earlier recognised BSES for its IT deployments.

“BSES has been declared as one of the three finalists and a contender for the final award for its successful implementation  of Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) for Key Consumers and Grids”, said a BSES spokesperson.

“The objective of these awards is to provide a platform for organizations among the short listed verticals that are using IT to deliver high business value to their customers. This year’s NASSCOM - CNBC TV18 IT User Awards are recognising organizations that have used IT to improve their efficiency and    competitiveness in face of the global economic slowdown.

The awards will showcase technology initiatives of the enterprises which have helped in reducing costs, optimizing business processes, while creating competitive advantage and having a positive impact on its stakeholders. The award is not in recognition of a singular IT project, but evaluates an IT initiative (can be multiple sub-projects) that meet a specific challenge”, said a BSES official.

The IT User Awards instituted by NASSCOM recognise enterprises across verticals which have implemented projects demonstrating benefits of IT to the enterprise, thereby promoting adoption of IT India. These IT User Awards have emerged as one of the most coveted awards for user organizations in India and have been designed as an integral part of NASSCOM’s Domestic IT Market Initiative.

The awards honourees are chosen by a combination of extensive research and an expert jury. To reach this far, each of nominees had to go through a very rigorous, multi phase evaluation process.  In Phase I, the international consultancy firm Nielsen carefully scrutinised the exhaustive qualitative and quantitative information of dozens of nominations for each of the verticals. In Phase II, CIO and IT Managers of each of the top 3 scoring enterprises were extensively interviewed in a bid to understand the finer nuances of the IT implementation strategy of the enterprise.

Post this, the details of individual implementations of the top 3 scorers are then shared with the by an eminent jury, appointed by NASSCOM. The eminent jury consists of Dinesh Kumar (Executive Director, IT, NTPC), Krishnan Dhawan, (MD, Oracle India Private Limited), Pankaj Chandra, (Professor and Director, IIM Bangalore), Prasanto Kumar Roy (President and Chief Editor, ICT Publications, Cyber Media), Rajesh Uppal (Chief General Manager – IT and CIO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd) and Saurabh Srivastava (Chairman, CA India).

According to a BSES spokesperson, “Today, BSES’ technologically advanced IT network is seamlessly unified - integrating multiple state-of-the-art platforms and technologies – with an uptime of a phenomenal 99.5%. “Moreover, BSES Delhi’ IT network has emerged as the largest single location IT network in North India
