Energy Conservation is the need of the hour. And awareness about it is the key. And at BSES, it is also one of the most pursued agendas. After successfully educating thousands of school children – across hundreds of Delhi schools on energy conservation through its hugely popular BSES Bijli Gyan Abhiyan initiative, BSES is now taking the energy conservation initiative to the next level.

In the ‘next level’, BSES is once again partnering with schools to propagate the message of energy conservation. But this time among Delhiites. For this, BSES is reaching out to hundreds of schools – both government and private – in its licensed area to engage Delhiites in this crucial drive and to solicit their support. For this BSES is engaging schools to make energy conservation an integral part of their Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) curriculum and to organise student rally’s in their neighbourhoods.

“To make this initiative a success, BSES will work very closely with the schools – giving them all necessary help and support including logistics, guest lectures by BSES officials on energy conservation – for successful implementation of this initiative. That’s not all. Students of all the participating schools in the SUPW and student rallies on energy conservation will also be given certificates by BSES”, added the official.

The first of the student rallies on energy conservation - in association with BSES - was organised by over 350 students and 15 teachers of Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave today. The students of classes’ 4th and 5th carrying placards on energy conservation marched around the densely populated apartment complexes in Vasundhara Enclave and Mayur Vihar Phase 3 – interacting with residents and making them aware about the need for energy conservation and how can they help. They also distributed BSES designed leaflets on energy conservation. Some of the slogans read “Save power - our future depends on it”; Enjoy a cooler Delhi – Grow more trees”; “Disconnect “Stand By” mode. Save Power”; “We have the power to save Energy, Water and Mother Earth today!”

“The response from the schools is very encouraging, After Somerville school, around 200 students of Starex International School, Vasundhara Enclave will march for the cause of energy conservation on November 15, 2008”, said a BSES official.

“Energy Conservation is an integral part of BSES’ Corporate Social Responsibility. For this BSES has been continuously engaging different sections of the society and stakeholders. Students can be good brand ambassadors for energy conservation. I congratulate Somerville school and their students for taking the lead in this drive”, said Shri Arun Kanchan, CEO, BSES.

Emphasising on the importance of energy conservation, A S Templeton, Principal, Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave said, “Our school whole heartedly believes in energy conservation. We have a team of Eco Club members which ensures we conserve energy and teach others to do the same”.

According to a BSES spokesperson, “BSES has been continuously championing the cause of energy conservation at multiple levels and across all available platforms. Besides educating the stakeholders on the needs and benefits of energy conservation, the company has also launched / taken several recent path breathing initiatives in this direction.
