On November 29, the Special Court of
Electricity, Patparganj remanded Munnabhai Battiwala – an illegal electricity
contractor to 14 days judicial custody in Tihar for stealing a whopping 552 KW of
electricity.
Earlier on the evening of 21 December 21,
2006, Munnabhai Battiwala, as the illegal electricity contractor was popularly
known, was caught by a BSES Enforcement Team stealing and illegally
distributing a whopping 552 KW of power to the residents of Janta Mazdoor
Colony, Welcome in
Subsequently, according to the provisions of
the Indian Electricity Act, 2003, a penalty amount of over Rs 94 lakh was
levied on the accused. Later when the accused failed to deposit the penalty in
the stipulated timeframe, an FIR (No 711/2007) was registered against the
accused and he was arrested by the Police and produced before the
