BSES unveils new look Electricity Bill

Incorporating International practices, Customer priority and wish list

 

  • Customer wish list and priority given primacy in New Bill
  • Customer Reference Number (CRN) to take primacy vis-à-vis K No.
  • Newly designed bill is amazingly simple and in a reader friendly format

In its bid to give its consumers a truly world class experience, BSES has completely revamped its existing electricity bill – making it interface friendlier than ever before. The new electricity bill was unveiled by Shri Lalit Jalan, CEO, BRPL in a simple ceremony today.

 

“The new electricity bill besides being in a simple reader friendly format, also addresses customers concerns by containing a lot of relevant and useful information,” said a BSES official.

 

The process for the new look bill took more than 14 months to evolve, during which it underwent more than 100 design revisions, multiple iterations, improvements, extensive research and feedback. Some of the elements that were taken into consideration, while revising the bill included Identification of all the elements of the existing bill, Categorisation based on type of information, Design improvements for readability and clarity and Additional information based on research and legal requirements. The new bill also has various options for branding and social messages.

 

“The new bill is not only based on extensive feedback from customers and stakeholders including the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) but also incorporates the current international practices and inputs from International consultants and Research firms like McKinsey, Datamonitor, Accenture, IMRB International etc. The new bill has been benchmarked against global practices across leading utilities and service categories including mobile phones, financial services and credit cards. Some of the leading names that have inspired the new bill include British Gas, REMU, NUON, France Telecom, Belgacom, Telefonica and London Electricity” said a BSES official.

Some of the improvements, based on customer priority, wish list, feedback and research include:

 

  1. Detailed tariff structure
  2. Clear payment instructions and tips
  3. Complete contact information for assistance
  4. Energy charges and six months history
  5. Consumption period and bill details
  6. Appliance wise consumption guide
  7. Bright colours, bigger font size for easy reading
  8. Reader friendly categorisation of information
  9. Helpline numbers for reporting electricity theft
  10. Contact details of CGRF and Electricity Ombudsman

 

The new multi colour bill, conforming to current international practices and benchmarks needs state-of-the-art printing technology. In compliance with its philosophy and constant endeavour of superior technology selection and cost efficiencies, BSES has adopted the latest German technology for the new bill.  This state-of-the-art technology, besides leading to better cost optimisation is capable of full variable colour printing on both sides.

 

The new electricity bill will concur with the shift from present K No based system to a Customer Reference Number (CRN) system – in tandem with the current international practices. The existing CRN number – also mentioned in the existing bill and unique for each registered consumer will continue. “Though the existing new K NO will remain, the unique CRN number will be the sole identity and the sole reference point for the customer” said Pankaj Kumar, Vice President (Commercial), BRPL.

 

According to a BSES spokesperson: “In keeping with the constant endeavour to take the customer care to the next level, options are being evaluated, to bring out the bill in the customers language of choice.” Plans are also afoot to introduce a bill the visually challenged in the near future.
