BRPL gets a CISF Company ….to aid its efforts to curb power theft

 

 

  • A CISF Company of 114 personnel made available to BRPL
  • CISF personnel can carry arms and detain the accused, without warrant, before handing them over to the local Police for further action
  • Since July 2002, BSES has booked over 53,000 cases of power theft and unearthed electricity theft load of over 3.2 lakh KW.
  • BSES’ drive against power theft has also seen over 160 power thieves being send to jail since April 2006.
  • BRPL and BYPL have brought about a record reduction in AT & C losses. BRPL from 51.4% in July 2002 to 29.95%  now and BYPL from 63.1% to 39.1%.

 

The much awaited CISF Company to assist BRPL combat the menace of power theft has finally arrived. BRPL has become the second discom after BYPL where this trained force is being deployed.

 

To grace the occasion and to give CISF personnel a warm welcome, BRPL organized a simple but an impressive ceremony today. Those present on the occasion included senior BSES and CISF officials.

 

Welcoming the CISF Company, Mr Ajay Dhagat, Member-Management Committee, BRPL, said “Deployment of CISF for controlling power theft in Delhi is a milestone. We at BSES are confident that the presence of CISF personnel will strengthen BRPL’s efforts to reduce power theft”. He added CISF personnel will be working in tandem with the Delhi Police”

 

A CISF Company comprising 114 officials will assist BRPL Enforcement Teams in their drive against power theft in South and West Delhi areas. Under the CISF Act, its personnel may carry arms and detain the accused, without a warrant, before handing him/her to the local police for further action.

 

BYPL became the first discom in Delhi to get the services of CISF in August 2006.

 

According to a BSES spokesperson “Since July 2002, BSES’ drive against power theft has seen over 53,000 cases of power being booked and a power theft load of over 3.3 lakh KW being unearthed. BSES’ drive against power theft has also seen over 160 power thieves being sent to jail since April 2006. BRPL and BYPL have also brought about a record reduction in power theft in their respective areas. BRPL has reduced AT & C losses in its area - from 51.4 % in July 2002 to around 29.9% now- a reduction of 21.5 %.  Corresponding figures for BYPL are 63.1% and 39.1% - a reduction of around 24%”
