Press Release

BSES’ plan to minimize inconvenience due to power shortage

·         Brings out a loadshedding schedule to minimize inconvenience

·         Informing RWA’s about loadshedding in their respective areas

·         Urges consumers to conserve electricity

·         Northern Grid facing about 10,000 MW of shortage

Summers are back and Delhi is facing an acute scarcity of power on account of a host of factors including low and insufficient generation. There is a shortage of about 10,000 MW in the Northern Grid. The issue is further compounded by over-drawing of electricity by some neighboring states –which leads to a dip in frequency levels.

In such a situation, the frequency levels fall to dangerous levels – point where the distribution system has no alternative but to resort to loadshedding, till the frequency levels stabilizes to a healthy point. BSES resorts to load-shedding on advice of the Delhi State Load Dispatch Centre, who in turn is advised by Northern Region Load Dispatch Centre (NRLDC).

To minimize inconvenience and help customers’ plan their day, BSES today, released its “load shedding schedule” for the month of May 2006. This will keep customers informed about the loadshedding schedules in their respective areas. Though BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) and BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) are already keeping the local Resident Welfare Associations‘s (RWA’s) informed about the loadshedding schedule in their respective areas, this schedule will largely negate the need for the consumers to repeatedly call our 24 x 7 helpline numbers or their local offices.

As per the advice of the GoNCTD, there will be restricted power supply to the notified industrial areas between 6 pm and 12 midnight. However, loadshedding may increase or decrease, depending upon the availability of power for distribution.

In view of the grim power situation, BSES appeals to its customers to conserve electricity and adopt the habit of switching off electrical equipments in order to overcome the crisis.

BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers.
