Press Release
CNG Station, Kushth Ashram & Anand Parbat industrial units
caught stealing electricity of over 1100 KW; Rs 3.8 Cr in penalties due
Amidst introducing new technologies and improving its distribution system on one hand, BSES continues with its tirade against power theft on the other. In raids conducted over the past 6-7 days, BSES Enforcement teams, along with the personnel from Delhi Police unearthed power theft of over 1100 KW on which penalties of around Rs 3.8 crores are liable to be imposed.
(A) A prominent Petrol and CNG Pump – Aman Filling Point in East Delhi caught stealing electricity
Last week, BSES Yamuna Enforcement Teams swooped down on Aman Filling Point – one of the busiest petrol and CNG pumps in Mayur Vihar in East Delhi and caught it stealing electricity. The fuel pump, which not only had deliberately slowed its meter by around 60 percent, was also found to be drawing over 90 KW of power as against a sanctioned load of only 11 KW. “The electricity that was used to run a 75 HP CNG compressor was clocking an average of only 7000 units per month as apposed to around 20,000 units recorded at other CNG stations using similar compressors”, said a BSES official. The fuel pump has been booked for DAE and a penalty of around Rs 18 lakh is liable to be imposed on the fuel pump, added the official.
(B) Two Industrial Units in Anand Parbat caught stealing electricity with ‘deliberately’ burnt meters
Enforcement Teams of BSES caught two industrial units in the busy Anand Parbat Industrial Area stealing electricity of over 200 KW. Both the Iron factory - owned by one Bishan Dass (Registered Consumer) and an Auto parts manufacturing unit – M/s Apollo Rolling Engineering Work were found with burnt meters and were stealing electricity of over 166 KW and 36 KW respectively. Investigations revealed that both the meters had tell tale signs clearly pointing that they had been earlier tampered. “On realising that, they could be raided; both the factory owners burnt their respective meters and lodged a burnt meter complaints with BSES”, said a BSES official. Cumulative penalties of over Rs 40 lakh are liable to be imposed for Dishonest Abstraction of Energy, as per the provisions of the Electricity Act 2003, added the official.
(C) 21 factories inside a Kushth Ashram in East Delhi caught stealing electricity of over 800 KW.
History repeats itself – literally! This was found out by the BSES Enforcement Teams during a joint raid with Delhi police on a Kushth Ashram in East Delhi last week. During a raid conducted 3-4 days ago on the Ashram – for the third time in less than three months – the raiding teams found 21 factories (involved in PVC Extruder works, PVC Moulding, Zinc Enamelling, Zinc Electroplating etc) stealing electricity worth a whopping 811 KW by hooking directly from the nearby BSES LV Mains. “Cumulative penalties of over Rs 3.25 crores are liable to be imposed on the erring units”.
According to a BSES spokesperson “BSES is determined to weed out power theft in its licensed area. Raids are being conducted on a large scale. The recent unveiling of the SCADA-GIS will greatly enhance BSES’ capabilities to detect and minimise power theft”
BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers. .
