Road Widening agency causes five 66 KV High Tension Towers to fall
• Late Sunday night, five High Tension electricity towers fell in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area.
• The incident occurred during the road widening of the ‘Akshardham-Noida’ main road. As a result, the area around the foundation of these towers was disturbed and damaged, weakening their base. As a result, one HT tower toppled over and due to the impact and cascading effect, four other HT poles, connected with the wire, too toppled over.
• These facts came to the fore during the subsequent investigation undertaken by BYPL. Based on this, the company plans to file a compensation claim against the concerned agency – both for the material and the financial loss.
• Road widening agency had not given prior notice or taken permissions/clearances from BYPL for work in this area.
• As a result of the unfortunate incident, the entire area plunged into darkness. Alert BYPL O&M teams restored the electricity within 45 minutes, by back feeding the area.
• It is unfortunate that in this incident an innocent person lost his life and another person has been seriously injured and is hospitalised.
• Road widening agencies engaged in the beautification of the city are once again requested to inform BSES before undertaking any activity, which has the potential to damage BSES property. This will enable BSES to depute officials on site, to oversee and assist these civic agencies, to avert any such mishaps in the future.
BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
