Tower Incident -

BYPL files Police complaint against M/S DS Construction Pvt Ltd,

the contractor engaged by PWD

 

        Consequent to the unfortunate incident on the night of 21 March 2010, when five HT Towers fell, killing a person and seriously injuring another, BYPL today lodged a formal complaint against M/S DS Construction Pvt Ltd, the contractor engaged by PWD, at the Pandav Nagar Police Station. The company has requested the Police to initiate action against the Contractor, as the entire incident is the result of their negligence.

        The complaint says, “It was further observed that the road widening contractor of PWD without caring  for the basic norms of Electricity Rules has damaged the plinth of the towers which caused the un-happening and unfortunate incident and the photography which clearly shows the negligence of PWD contractor, is enclosed herewith for the consideration of the authorities concerned”

        “It is noteworthy to mention here that the illegal acts of PWD contractor caused damage to the electrical assets worth about Rs 2crore of the company apart from causing fatal injuries”.

        It further says, “That the negligent acts of the Contractor M/S DS Construction Pvt Ltd caused fatal and critical injuries and further endangerd the life and personal safety of public at large, as the contractor of PWD is not bothered to follow the safety norms and caused damaged to five 66 KV Towers …………”

        It requests the Police to take necessary action against M/S DS Construction Pvt Ltd. It says, “….submits that the necessary actions be initiated against the contractor who is engaged in the process of widening of Noida Link Road, as the entire incident was caused due to their negligence”.

        Additionally, BYPL has also written a letter to the DCP, East District, “As discussed, we propose that you may consider referring this matter to Secretary (Power) Govt of NCT who is also the Chairman cum Managing Director, Delhi Transco Ltd, for an independent technical investigation into this matter, as they are well-versed on all aspects of transmission towers”.

        “You will agree that such an independent Government agency will help in a fair investigation and finalization of the matter”.
