Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission approves BRPL Laboratory and BYPL Laboratory

• HERC approves BRPLL and BYPLL as 3^rd party independent meter testing lab for all Haryana electricity consumers
• These are first utility laboratory’s to get the approval
• Several more State Electricity Regulatory Commissions in talks with BRPLL & BYPLL
• BRPLL & BYPLL meter testing labs were awarded the coveted ISO (ISO/IEC 17025:2005) accreditation from  National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)

In a significant decision, the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) has approved BRPL Laboratory and BYPL Laboratory to carry out independent third-party meter testing for electricity consumers of Haryana. This approval makes these meter testing laboratories’ the first Utility laboratory in the country to get such an approval from a State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC).  

Earlier in September 2008, BRPLL and BYPLL - located at Pushp Vihar and Savita Vihar respectively – had received the internationally recognised and much sought after ISO (ISO/IEC 17025:2005) seal of approval from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) – India’s sole laboratory accreditation authority and part of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

This approval by the HERC accords BRPLL and BYPLL the same status as given to the famed government owned National Physics Laboratory, New Delhi. “Our state-of-the-art independent meter testing laboratory has been generating quite an interest among State Electricity Regulatory Commissions (SERC) and other discoms alike. We are in discussions with several SERC’s in this regard. During the last few months, several high-level delegations from Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission, UP Power Corporation Limited, Tamil Nadu discom, Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigan Limited (JVVNL),  Haryana discom among others have visited these labs”, said BRPLL spokesman.

According to the spokesperson, “There are only a handful of distribution utilities in India that have NABL accreditation. This empanelment by HERC – a first for any utility’s meter testing lab by a State Electricity Regulatory Commission - once again stands testimony to the quality of stringent world class norms and benchmarks being followed”.
