Of late, BSES has been receiving many complaints from its customers about gangs of imposters conning customers of thousands of rupees by posing as BSES officials. Members of the gangs are harassing and conning gullible customers on one pretext or the other. Sometimes they harass in the name of a “tampered” meters and sometimes in the name of “power theft”.

BSES urges its customers to guard against unscrupulous elements - out to make a quick buck in a clandestine manner and tarnish the company’s image – and not to get intimidated by their threats and false assurances – and not to give them any money – whatever be the reason. All Enforcement related payments (fines and penalties) are to be made only at designated BSES offices.

Customers are further advised to ascertain and verify the identity of persons wanting to check the meter and should immediately alert the nearest BSES office or call 39999888 and 39999777 and inform the local Police should they notice anything suspicious.

Two recent cases brought to the notice of BSES are a case in point. While one case pertains to Chandini Chowk, the other pertains to Dilshad Gardens. The case pertaining to Dilshad Gardens is really a unique one as the imposters, inadvertently or not, gave the customer a fake receipt and that too not of BYPL but of another distribution company.

BSES has reported the matter to the Police. In the last few months, BSES Vigilance Teams along with Delhi Police have caught many gang of imposters.

Impostors on the prowl in Chandini Chowk

An imposter by the name of Sandeep Kumar along with his gang members is on the prowl in the Chandini Chowk area. According to the complaints received from customers, he is literally going from house to house, telling susceptible customers that they have tampered their meter and deliberately made it slow. In Lajpat Rai market alone, the gang has contacted over 100 customers and even managed to fleece many. Sandeep has been posing as an employee of a BSES contractor and giving 9811620117 as his contact number.

Impostors in Dilshad Gardens

Recently a lady in Dilshad Garden area became a victim of imposters. The imposters visited the lady and told her that she has Rs 1000 as outstanding against her bill. They asked her to immediately pay the pending bill in cash otherwise her electricity will be disconnected. Fearing disconnection, the lady paid the “pending” amount as directed. The imposters even gave a “proper” receipt acknowledging the payment. But inadvertently or not, the receipt bore a logo, not of BYPL but of another distribution company in Delhi. But since the lady was illiterate, she could not identify the faux pas committed by the imposters. The “fake” receipt was exposed when genuine BSES officials visited her residence and she showed them the receipt.

BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers.
