Delhi creates History – Peak Demand touches 4668 MW

 

 

The unprecedented heat wave is setting new records every other day. The first four months have been the hottest on record in the last 100 years in North India and if this trend is anything to go by, 2010 could well be the warmest year is history. And there is no sign of this trend abating. At 46.7 degrees June, 20, was the hottest day of the year.


The National Capital created history today day, when its electricity demand touched 4668 MW, its highest ever, and was successfully met at 3:34 pm. This surpassed the earlier high of 4581 MW recorded on May 24, 2010. The highest demand met last year was 4408 MW on July 8, 2009. The power demand in Delhi has galloped over the years. Moreover, the highest demand met during the month of June in 2009, 2008 and 2007 was 4337 MW, 3822 MW and 4030 MW respectively.

It is pertinent to mention that Delhi’s per capita electricity consumption of 1615 Units /annum, is more than double of the national average of 606 units/ annum


BRPL and BYPL also appeal to their customers to enhance their sanctioned load in tandem with their increased electricity consumption. This will ensure better supply and fewer breakdowns.

 

Though BRPL and BYPL have made adequate arrangements for power, they appeal to their over 25 lakh customers to use electricity judiciously. This will not only help conserve electricity, but also save money for the consumers in the process
