Delhi consumes 4337 MW

Becomes the 2nd highest power consuming ‘State’ in the Northern Region

 

  • Delhi’s becomes the 2nd highest power consuming state in North, after UP
  • In just 6 days (June 24 to 30), power demand in Delhi has increased by 3.8%
  • Delhi’s power demand has increased from 27 MW in 1951 to 4337 in 2009 (June 30)
  • At 1265, Delhi has the highest per capita consumption of electricity
  • BSES’ robust distribution network has been successfully meeting the ever increasing demand
  • In the last 7 years, BSES has invested a Capex of around Rs 3800 crore for modernization
  • In the next 2 years, BSES will invest a Capex of Rs 1325 crore for its distribution network

 

June 2009, has been one of the hottest months in Delhi. This year, there has been an unprecedented demand for power. The quantum of electricity successfully supplied by BSES in its areas (East, Central, South and West Delhi) in June this year is around 20% more than the corresponding figure last year. Today BSES catered 2870 MW to its consumers.

 

Delhi’s has been making history, by setting new records every day in successfully meeting the increased power demand. Today, Delhi’s peak power demand at 4:04 pm was 4337 MW, its highest ever. This has also made Delhi the 2nd highest power consuming state, after Uttar Pradesh (around 7000 MW), in North India.

 

 

Delhi’s peak power demand has steadily increased by 3.8% in just the last six days.

Delhi’s power demand since 1951 has grown exponentially. At 1265 Units / annum, Delhi has the highest per capita consumption of electricity (National average is 606 units / annum)

“In the wake of an unprecedented power situation, BSES is leaving no stone unturned for arranging additional electricity – whatever be the cost”, said a BSES official.

 

 

 

According to Mr Lalit Jalan, BSES, Chairman, “With the help of BSES’ robust and state-of-the-art infrastructure, the company been successfully meeting the power demand in its licensed area. In the last seven years, BSES has incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 3,790 crore - Rs 2,270 crore in BRPL and Rs 1,520 crore in BYPL. Both the discoms have infused a lot of synergy in their distribution networks”

 

“In the next 2 years, BSES will incur a capital expenditure of Rs 1,325 crore. Out of the proposed investment of Rs 1,325 crore, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) would incur an expenditure of Rs 825 crore (Rs 475 crore in FY 2009-2010 and  Rs 350 crore in 2010-11) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) Rs 500 crore (Rs 300 crore in FY 2009-2010 and Rs 200 in 2010-2011)”, added Jalan
