Customers are advised to inform the nearest BSES office or dial 100 should they notice anything suspicious
A recent case brought to the notice of BSES once again shows that how gullible and unaware customers are sometimes harassed and targeted by imposters and conmen. With the cooperation of a customer, four (con) men were arrested in Uttam Nagar, for masquerading as BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) officials and demanding Rs 50,000 from the occupants of the premises.
The Case
Four imposters, masquerading as BRPL officials went to the residence of one Vijender Singh (r/o 78 Jain Park, Matiala, Uttam Nagar) and after an “inspection” of his meter, declared it to be tampered and demanded Rs 50,000. They gave-him two-hours to think, and promised to call back.
The alert customer, suspicious about their mannerisms called up the BSES office and narrated the sequence of events. BRPL officials asked him to play ball. On the subsequent call by the imposters, he asked them to come and collect the money. In the meantime, BRPL enforcement officials landed and hid in the customers premises. And the minute the masquerading BRPL officials showed up, they were apprehended by their genuine counterparts and taken to the local Police station. Based on complaints by the customer and BRPL officials, a FIR (No 182/10) was registered against them u/s 384/34 of the IPC at the Bindapur Police Station.
Members of such gangs are harassing and conning gullible customers on one pretext or the other. Sometimes they harass in the name of a “tampered” meters and sometimes in the name of “power theft”. By taking simple precautions, you too can thwart such nefarious designs of conmen and imposters.
