RWA’s experience SCADA – Hands on!!

BSES launches unique program for Residents and Students

• BSES launches a unique RWA / Student program – SCADA Darshan
• Program aimed at RWAs and students understanding and appreciating the scale of SCADA (Next Generation Electricity Distribution Management System) and to instill a sense of pride amongst Delhiites
• Program includes explaining to RWAs and Students the various facets of power generation, transmission, distribution
• First batch of 5 South Delhi RWA’s (15 elected representatives) visited SCADA on June 12 2006.

As part of its ongoing initiative to strengthen consumer interface, BSES has launched an unique program – SCADA Darshan – for RWAs and Students. The hour-long program is aimed at making consumers aware of the company’s recent initiatives and to allow them to experience first hand the business and management of electricity in BSES’ licensed area.

For RWA’s and Students to fully understand, comprehend and appreciate the true enormity and scope of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Centre – the recently unveiled state-of-the-art distribution technology that is all set to bring about a paradigm shift with regards to fault identification-isolation and restoration, BSES has launched this novel program to share Delhi’s sense of pride with all its consumers.

The program was launched on 12 June 2006, when 15 elected representatives of five South Delhi RWA’s visited the SCADA Centre at Kalkaji. The 15 elected representatives belonged to Greater Kailash II, Sheikh Sarai, East of Kailash, Munirka Vihar and Panscheel Vihar. Besides getting an opportunity to get a hands-on experience of SCADA’s functioning, the RWA members also got an opportunity to interact with SCADA experts who also answered all their power related queries.

“The unique program aims to not only showcases SCADA but also educates residents, students and RWA members about various facets about the Capital’s power generation, transmission , distribution, constraints and steps taken by BSES to improve and augment the system” said Mr Lalit Jalan, CEO BRPL. “The commissioning of SCADA in Delhi makes it join the league of advance cities like Hong Kong, Singapore, Stockholm and London. It is a matter of pride for all Delhiites and we would welcome RWAs, students and interested consumers to come and visit the facility” he added.

As parts of its program, BSES will strive to show case SCADA to as many RWA members / Engineering students/ School students etc as possible. About SCADA

Recently inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, the SCADA System – estimated to cost around Rs 153 crore – will change the face of power distribution in BSES’ licensed area and benefit all its 23 lakh customers. It will monitor power distribution system and supply on a real time basis in BSES’ licensed area. Any abnormalities in the system will be immediately flagged and corrective action taken.
