Normally what does one expect to find in a dairy farm? – Milk! Cows! But a BSES raid at the Gazipur Dairy Farm found anything but that. They found a Jean Washing and Dyeing unit and that too running on stolen power.  In another case, a BSES Enforcement team, accompanied by CISF and Delhi Police personnel caught a person stealing electricity, though for domestic purposes – but enough to electrify a large residence.

On July 19, both the accused - Dharmender – owner of the mid sized jeans washing and dying unit and Payre Lal were sentenced by the Special Court of Electricity at Patparganj to Tihar jail for 14 days.

Case of Dharmender – the jean washing and dying unit

An inspection on December 6, 2006 by a BYPL Enforcement team at the Gazipur Dairy Farm in East caught Dharmender stealing over around 28 KW of electricity by directly and illegally tapping electricity from a BSES LV line. Incidentally, the premises did not even have an electricity meter. The stolen electricity was being used to run a mid sized jeans washing and dyeing unit. A penalty of over 28 lakh, computed as per DERC guidelines, was imposed on the accused.

Case of Payre Lal

An inspection on 31 August 2006 by a BYPL Enforcement team, accompanied by CISF and Delhi Police personnel caught Vishan Dass and Payre Lal – residents of 30/29 Trilok Puri stealing around 12 KW of electricity by hooking from a nearby BSES LV Mains. Though an electricity meter was found at site, but that was found by passed. The stolen power was being used for domestic purposes. According to the DERC guidelines, a penalty of Rs 3.28 lakh was imposed.

Subsequently, when both the accused failed to deposit the penalty amounts by the stipulated dates; separate FIR’s were registered against the accused (FIR No 263/2007 against Dharmender at the Kalyan Puri Police Station and No 252/2005 against Payre Lal at the Mayur Vihar Police Station).

Later the accused were arrested by the Police and produced before the Special Court
