BSES nabs three persons with stolen meters,

Court orders police remand

The Court of the Metropolitan Magistrate, Patiala House has sent three persons to police custody on 20 July 2005 on charges of possessing electricity meters and for trying to install them, again illegally, at some premises.

The Vikas Puri Police Station has registered an FIR against the three accused – Ajit Singh, Chandra Pal and Brij Mohan – under Section 379 of IPC. A BSES spokesman said that the three accused were earlier apprehended by the company’s Enforcement Team for possessing stolen electricity meters and for illegally installing them at some premises in Vasant Kunj and Vikas Puri area.

Giving details of the incident, the spokesperson said that the enforcement team, during routine inspection, noticed two persons carrying energy meters in a suspicious manner.   On being confronted, the duo ran to a flat where a third person was in the process of negotiating a deal. All three were apprehended and on investigation it was found that the meter, which was earlier installed at a premise in Vikas Puri, was a stolen property and the gang was planning to illegally install it at a premise in Vasant Kunj.

The culprits were immediately handed over to the Vasant Kunj police station and they were detained under sections 41 (I) (d) of Indian Electricity Act. The material evidence was collected and seized as per Electricity act and handed over to the police.

According to a BSES spokesperson, “All credit goes to our vigilant enforcement team members who have once again demonstrated their effectiveness with the swift manner with which they conducted the whole operation.”
