New Delhi, July 6, 2005:
PRESS RELEASE
BSES launches Rs 30 crore project to install
Distribution Transformer Management System (DTMS) units
in 8700 transformers in its area
In its constant endeavour to provide reliable and quality electricity supply to its 23-lakh plus consumers, BSES has introduced a unique Rs 35-crore project for the installation of Distribution Transformer Management Service (DTMS) in all its 8700 transformers spread across its licensed area.
The initiative, which would lead to automatic initiation of corrective steps as soon as any fault erupts in the distribution network, requires installation of DTMS units in all the transformers. Under its DTMS’s pilot project phase, BSES has already technological up-graded 200 transformers and plans to cover all the 8700 transformers by December 2005.
The DTMS is an integrated, versatile distribution management and control system which incorporates energy metering, supply monitoring and control system for distribution transformer and associated LT feeders. This unique system also provides information for demand side management, thereby enabling efficient operation, surveillance and outage management.
The new DTMS unit system would go a long way towards minimizing or eliminating load shedding as it monitors voltage, current, demand and energy information of feeders. It protects transformers from overload and provides information on power / phase failure and restoration and is programmable for overload alarms, rapid change of loads, pre-set functions etc.
Since the DTMS is fully integrated with outage management system, outage notification with signals of tripping /faults/overloads/ abrupt change of load etc through SMS, enabling the System Control Room which is manned 24x7 located at Nehru Place Head Office to initiate corrective action immediately .
Such instant communication would ensure that power restoration / breakdown teams can be immediately directed to reach the effected area and restore power expeditiously, thus vastly reducing the response time.
The DTMS units in addition to above will facilitate Energy Auditing and help in identification of theft, load under-declaration etc. Thefts can be controlled to a large extent with the use of these units, thus providing reliable supply to BSES consumers in the city.
Communicating the benefits of using this technology, a BSES spokesperson said, “With the installation of this system, response time will reduce drastically as the control room, area-in-charge and complaint centres will get automatically updated with the status details enabling them to provide proper feedback to consumers. This technological up gradation is being done at a huge cost to benefit the consumers.”
