Tip-off on BSES anti-corruption number

leads to successful raid on illegal contractor

Fifty-two electricity meters, 72 meter covers, a bag full of terminal covers, 50 meters of cables and scores of DVB files containing details about hundreds of consumers were seized by the Delhi Police from an electrical goods shop-cum-godown in Chandni Chowk following a raid on 1 July 2005. The seizure was made under the provisions of the Electricity Act 2002.

The police subsequently registered a case under Section 102 of CPC against Rajender Prasad Arora, the owner of the electrical goods shop at 779, 3rd Floor, Gali Teliyan, Katra Neel, Chandni Chowk. The raid was conducted in the presence of BSES officers.

A tip off received from a BSES consumer on the anti-corruption numbers, advertised in the press and media, had led to the joint raid. The BSES Vigilance and Recovery officials and the Divisional Manager in co-ordination with the police team from Chandini Chowk conducted the raid.

Commenting on the raid a BSES spokesperson said, “We very much appreciate and value the help rendered by our alert customer in informing us about illegal activities of unscrupulous people.” The spokesperson urged all consumers to beware of cheats and other people who indulge in corrupt practices. “We assure our over 23 lakh customers in Delhi that all information received on our anti-corruption number 39999777 will be treated confidentially and acted upon promptly.”
