Delhi Chief Minister inaugurates BRPL’ 66/11 KV Dwarka Grid Substation
Keeping pace with Delhi’s development in wake of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, BRPL has been continuously sprucing up its distribution infrastructure. In a simple but an impressive ceremony today, the company’s newest Grid Sub Station – its 4th in Dwarka and 71st in its licensed area spanning 750 sq Kms - was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt Sheila Dikshit.
Others present on the occasion included Shri Mahabal Mishra (MP, Lok Sabha), Shri Somesh Shokeen (MLA), Smt Ganapati Galhot (Councillor), Shri Rajendra Kumar (Principal Secretary, Power, GoNCTD) senior Government and BRPL and BYPL officials led by CEO Shri Gopal Saxena and Shri Ramesh Narayanan.
This next generation and state of the art 66/11 KV Grid Substation, has been constructed at a total cost of over Rs 14 crore, keeping in mind the present and future requirement of this fast developing sub city. The Grid will have an initial capacity of 40 MVA (2 x 20 MVA), which will be expanded to 65 MVA over the next few months.
Speaking on the occasion, Sheila Dikshit said, “I am sure, this grid will fulfill the demands of the residents and commercial establishments of this fast developing hub.” She appreciated BRPL’s efforts to strengthen its network to meet the ever-increasing demand of electricity in its licensed area.
“Electricity is no more an issue in Delhi. The city’s progress and development has seen Delhi join the league of developed cities like Washington, London and Tokyo. Moreover, setting up of Grids like the one inaugurated today will alleviate even the minor power issues that crop up occasionally in some areas”, remarked the Chief Minister.
Conforming to the stringent international standards and incorporating the latest advancements in distribution technologies, this Grid Substation has several class leading features. Some of them include: (i) SCADA Compatible (ii) State-of-the-art Numerical Relay for Protection (iii) 66 KV Feed through underground cables to further enhance system reliability and (iv) Green Cover around the Grid. “To begin with this Grid will be manned, but over the next 9-12 months, this Grid, like the Grids abroad will become an unmanned one”, said a BRPL official.
“Besides improving the power supply situation for over 20,000 consumers in the fast developing Sectors (12, 13, 17, 18, and 19) and adjoining areas of Dwarka, this Grid will also provide electricity to Hotels Ramada Plaza and Park Plaza, which have been specially constructed to cater to the visitors for the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Other large customers who will benefit from this Grid include Guru Govind Singh I P University, Delhi Jal Board Pumping Station and EROS Metro Mall”, said Mr Gopal Saxena, CEO, BRPL.
According to a BRPL spokesperson, “Living upto its commitment to provide world - class distribution infrastructure to its customers – commensurate with Delhi’s global city status and as the host city for the Commonwealth Games 2010, BSES is busy sprucing and augmenting its distribution network. In the past seven years, BRPL has invested over Rs 2270 crore towards this task and between FY 2009 and 2011, the company will be investing an additional capex of Rs 825 crore.
