BSES reaches out to the underprivileged,
donates clothes
BSES’ deep rooted social ethos, is not limited at the corporate level,
but percolates down to each of the employees. Another in the series of socially
relevant campaigns, in which BSES colleagues actively and voluntarily participate,
is the ARPAN initiative – under which articles of clothing and woolens are
distributed to the needy.
For the third edition of the ARPAN initiative, senior BRPL and BYPL
officials distributed hundreds of articles of clothing and woolens to the needy
and the underprivileged in their respective areas today. While BRPL partnered
with ‘Freedom Trust’, BYPL, partnered with Shama educational and Polytechnic Society - both NGO’s working with the under privileged and the needy.
In BRPL’ function organized in
South Delhi’s Tigdi Village, BRPL’ senior management led by CEO Mr Gopal
Saxena and accompanied by the Deoli MLA Shri Arvinder Singh , Councilor Shri Satish Gupta and
officials of ‘Freedom Trust’, distributed hundreds of articles of clothing and
woolens amongst the 3,000 under privileged and the needy families in South Delhi’s
Tigdi Village.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA Arvinder Singh appreciated BSES’ ARPAN
initiative. He said, efforts like these show that the company is equally
concerned about the power supply and the welfare of the poor people also”
In BYPL’ function, organized at Seelampur’s CPJ Block, senior BYPL
officials, accompanied by Faheem Baig, a BYPL Vishisht Sahayogi from Yamuna
Vihar and General Secretary of NGO-Shama educational and Polytechnic Society, and
wives of senior BYPL officials, distributed clothes amongst the 2,000 odd
residents in the area.
“To ensure that really needy of the residents are not left out, BRPL and
BYPL officials, along with the officials of the two NGOs, identified the
poorest of the residents. The aim was to try ensure that each of households
gets at least one article of clothing”, said a company official.
“Conceived in December 2008, Project ARPAN envisages motivating employees
and their families to donate clothes and woolens for the less fortunate. To
make the effort meaningful, employees were requested to donate clothes which
they themselves will not be shy to wear. The response has been simply
overwhelming”, said Mr Ramesh Narayanan, CEO, BYPL.
According to Mr Gopal Saxena, CEO, BRPL, “This is yet another initiative
under our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and is held at
periodic intervals. In the recent past, we have reached out to the victims of
BRPL and BYPL,
