BSES’s consistent and continuous efforts to introduce next generation technology for making Delhi’s electricity supply quality, efficient and reliable have borne fruit. This is evident from the fact that the AT & C losses has reduced by a whopping 52.8% in the case of BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) – supplying power in East and Central Delhi and 47.2% in the case of BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) – supplying power in South and West Delhi.

The credit for this massive turnaround goes to introduction of modern internationally benchmarked technology – including installation of state-of-the-art Electronic Meters. Complying with the guidelines of the Indian Electricity Act 2003 and Central Electricity Authority (CEA) directives and cooperation of its customers, BSES has installed around 24 lakh or nearly 98 % of electricity meter to electronic in its licensed area. The process to change the remaining meters is currently on and would be completed by the end of this financial year.

“These nearly 98 % customers whose electricity meters have been changed to Electronic have joined their counterparts in countries such as France, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, UK, South Africa, Brazil, New Zealand, Korea, Malaysia and Singapore – who have been enjoying the benefits of digital meters”, said a BSES official while thanking BSES customers for making the change possible.

Besides having the ISI mark, BSES electronic meters have many unique features, including:

  • All Single Phase meters installed by BSES have an in built safety feature – EL LED. It’s glowing indicates an inter-mixing of consumer’s wires.
  • Meter reading is downloaded. This eliminates human error in recording and transfer of data.
  • Helps detect power theft / meter tampering
  • High degree of accuracy in recording energy consumption
  • Has an inbuilt memory which can provide data regarding monthly energy consumption and maximum power demand for each month

That’s not all. Electronic meters being installed by BSES have consistently met the stringent norms for meter accuracy. Infact, India has one of the world’s most stringent norms for Meter Accuracy
