BSES receives the coveted ISO 27001: 2005 certification for IT

• BSES becomes the 1^st Discom in Delhi to receive Norway’s coveted ISO 27001: 2005 certification
• ISO 27001: 2005 is an international standard for Information Security Management

It has becoming a habit for BSES to win accolades in the Information Technology (IT) space. After winning three prestigious national and international awards in the last five months, BSES’ IT department has now received the coveted ISO 27001:2005 certification for Information Security Management. This certification puts BSES in the league of select distribution utilities having this coveted certification. Infact, BSES has become the first discom in Delhi and the second in India to get this coveted certification.

ISO 27001 is an international standard for Information Security Management, certifying that a company’s IT processes and infrastructure is geared to address all possible internal and external security risks and threats in the domain of information management and data integrity.

This ISO 27001: 2005 certificate, besides benchmarking the IT systems and processes in accordance to international norms, has enormous benefits for BSES’ 25 lakh customers and stakeholders. Some of them include:

BSES received the coveted ISO 27001: 2005 certification from the reputed Det Norske Veritas (DNV), headquartered in Norway after a gruelling and long process, involving stringent checks and audit of its processes, plans, policies and procedures. “For the last 6 odd months, BSES had been re-aligning its procedures and preparing for this certification by benchmarking them as per the strict international norms”, Mr Singh said, adding: “For this exercise, BSES took help of renowned external experts”.
