Following the success of its previous four Lok Adalats, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), in association with the Delhi Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is organising a two-day Special Lok Adalat for its customers of South and West Delhi. It is being organised on January 14 and 15 at the premises of the District Court Saket, from 10 am onwards.
To ensure wider representation across consumer categories, cases of upto Rs 25 lakh will be taken up by the Lok Adalat. These cases can either be pending or yet-to-be-filed in any Court of Law. The two-day Lok Adalat will provide BRPL customers/ litigants residing in South and West Delhi, a one-time opportunity, for an amicable and on-the-spot settlement of their power theft cases, relating to both Direct Theft (DT) and Meter Tampering (DAE).
Customers desirous of settling their power theft cases can either come in person or through their Advocates / Authorised representatives. It is important for customers to carry their Photo Id and a copy of their bill.
“Conserving natural resources is extremely important and BSES is taking steps to imbibe this thought in every activity. BSES’ pro-environment concerns will also reflect in this two-day Lok Adalat. This two-day Lok Adalat will be “green” and is expected to save over 30,000 A4 size sheets or equivalent of nearly four full grown trees. The previous four BRPL Lok Adalats since 2009 have seen over 85000 A4 size sheets or equivalent of over 11 full grown trees being saved”, said Mr Gopal Saxena, CEO, BRPL.
BRPL and the DLSA are taking special care to make this Lok Adalat a paperless one. There will be no physical movements of files. All relevant case documents and files will be accessible from the computers being deployed for the purpose.
“Like the last four Lok Adalat’s, which saw 93% of the over 6000 cases getting resolved on-the-spot, BRPL is expecting a good response to this Lok Adalat as well. To dispose off cases in the quickest possible time, a total of twelve Courts will be set up for the purpose by DLSA.
For hand-holding the customers and to make their experience as hassle free as possible, BRPL is setting up twelve Help Desks manned by specially trained officials. Post their ‘settlement orders’, customers will be given sufficient time to pay their bills at the BRPL Enforcement office and issued No Dues Certificate.
To ensure the success of the Lok Adalat, BRPL and DLSA are taking all possible steps to inform eligible customers through various channels. In addition to the 25,000 letters/notices, being sent to the BRPL customers in South and West Delhi by DLSA, the company is also running radio spots on popular FM stations.
According to Mr Gopal Saxena, “We appeal to BRPL consumers of South and West Delhi to make full use of this unique opportunity to settle their power theft related disputes and grievances. This is a win-win opportunity for them; for it gives them a chance to amicably settle their cases and an escape from a time consuming and an expensive legal process”
“Lok Adalats are innovative and have emerged as an effective tool of alternative dispute resolution in India. Through this mechanism, disputes can be settled in a simpler, quicker and cost-effective way at all the three stages i.e. pre-litigation, pending-litigation and post-litigation. The scheme helps customers and takes pressure off the over burdened courts”, he added.
BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
