BSES targets areas, where theft is a way of life

·        Massive enforcement raids in Gokulpuri village of Nandnagri District in East Delhi

·        Power theft of over 17.42 lakh units detected & stopped

·        BSES was losing over Rs 1.2 crore per month on account of this theft

·        Gokulpuri raid part of BSES’s ongoing intensive anti power theft drive

As part of its ongoing anti power theft drive, BSES has intensified its operations and started targeting areas where theft was a way of life and places which were so far out of bounds for enforcement personnel.

In a night long raid which began on 4 January and ran into the wee hours of the morning of 5 January, a strong BYPL contingent of Enforcement Personnel detected massive power theft in Gokulpuri village of Nandnagari district in East Delhi. The raid detected power theft of over 17.42 lakh units (on an annualized basis), worth over Rs I.2 crore. A case for direct theft has been booked against over half-a-dozen offenders. A FIR is being lodged.

The raids conducted against these electricity thieves – namely M/s Baba Sutli Works, M/s Giriraj Plastics, M/s Rajinder Singh Electro-plating, M/s R Tayal electro-plating etc – witnessed big and medium size factories being run on stolen power. These factories include a Wire Drawing factory, a Dyeing and Washing unit, Plastic Extruder unit, PVC Extruder unit, an Electro plating among others at 81, Gali No 13, Gokulpuri, Nain Singh Complex and Khata No 299,

According to a BSES spokesperson “BSES is determined to eliminate the menace of power theft if Delhi, because it doesn’t want honest consumers to pay for the sins of others” The spokesperson added that since electricity is a scare resource, consumers should help BSES catch the thief’s.
