BYPL hosting Power Cup 2011
Delhi ‘Power’ honchos set to raise their pitch on the cricket field
T 20 Cricket tournament between senior management of BYPL, NDPL, DTL, IPGCL, NDMC and BRPL
Legendary Cricketer, Arjuna Awardee Chetan Chauhan to inaugurate the tournament
Tournament to be played according to the international ‘league’ format

The World Cup fever has not only gripped the Indian sub-continent, but also the Delhi power utilities. On eve of the ICC World Cup, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) is hosting the 2nd Power Cup 2011 – an apex level T 20 cricket tournament.
The tournament, spanning two weekends (February 5,6 and 12,13) will see the senior management of the six Delhi power utilities (BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL), Delhi Transco Ltd (DTL) , Indraprasthra Power Generation Company Ltd (IPGCL), North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC)) battle it out on the cricket field.
According to Mr Ramesh Narayanan, CEO BYPL, “We are proud to have the opportunity to host the Power Cup 2011 on the eve of the ICC Cricket World Cup”
“In a country where cricket is religion, what better way to increase camaraderie, than over a game of cricket. The idea behind the Power Cup tournament is to nurture mutual understanding and cooperation among fellow industry professionals”, added Mr Narayanan.
The tournament to be played at DDA Poorvi Khel Parisar, Tahirpur, Dilshad Garden, in East Delhi, will be inaugurated by the legendary Indian cricketer and Arjuna Awardee Mr Chetan Chauhan. Presently he is a member of the Technical Committee of the BCCI, Chairman of the Delhi Ranji Trophy Selection Committee and Vice President of the Delhi District Cricket Association.
The tournament is being organized and played according to the internationally established ‘league’ format. The teams divided into two Groups – ‘A’ and ‘B’, will initially play against each-other in the same Group. Winners of the two Groups will then battle-it out in the finals. Group A comprises BYPL, NDMC and IPGCL and Group B of BRPL, NDPL and DTL. Moreover, the matches will be refereed by experienced umpires from the Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA).
The Power Cup inter-utility Cricket tournament was conceived with an objective of enhancing the sporting spirit between the top-management of the Delhi power utilities. The first tournament in 2010 was won by DTL. BYPL Team, captained by its CEO Mr Ramesh Narayanan, had come runners-up.
On the sidelines of the matches, children of the employees of the participating companies will be cheering the players.
According to a BYPL spokesperson, “This year, BYPL has decided to felicitate Man-of-the-Series with a special award of a green electric vehicle. This is to spread the go green message”
