BSES reaches out to the under privileged, donates clothes

  • BYPL donates clothes amongst leprosy patients at Sunder Nagri
  • Hundreds of BSES employees donate clothes
  • Aim to ensure that each of the 1100 households gets at least one article of clothing
  • Clothes donated in association with Rehabilitation Centre for Leprosy Patients
  • ARPAN to be a periodic exercise across BSES areas

BSES’s deep rooted social conscious has often seen it initiating projects for the under-privileged. The latest in this series of socially relevant campaigns is the ARPAN initiative – under which cloths and woolens were distributed to the needy today.

Conceived in December 2008, Project ARPAN envisaged motivating employees and their families to donate clothes and woolens for the less fortunate. “To make the effort meaningful, employees were requested to donate clothes which they themselves will not be shy to wear. The response has been overwhelming”, said a BSES official.

Once the clothes and woolens were collected, BSES identified the inmates of the leprosy colony at Sundar Nagri at its recipients and thus partnered with Rehabilitation Centre for Leprosy Patients (RCL), Department of Social Welfare, Tahirpur. “The Leprosy colony has about 1100 households and our aim was to ensure that each and every household gets at least one article of clothing”, added the official.

BSES consciously decided to donate the collected clothes amongst leprosy patients – one of the most neglected segments in our society. In a simple function organized today, BSES with the help of RCL and the pradhans of the Leprosy colony, Sunder Nagri, distributed clothes to hundreds of inhabitants. The entire distribution was done under the guidance and supervision of senior BSES and RCL officials.

According to Mr Arun Kanchan, CEO, BSES, “This is yet another initiative under our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and would now be held at periodic intervals. In the recent past, we have reached out to the victims of Delhi and Bihar floods. BSES also has an institutionalized campaign to educate Delhiites about energy conservation”.

BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers.
