Joint Delhi Police and BSES Enforcement Team assaulted,

Two sent to Tihar for two weeks

 

·        Joint-BSES anti power theft raiding team brutally assaulted in South Delhi’s Kapashera

·        FIR No 56/07 lodged at Kapashera Police Station -2 arrested and sent to Tihar Jail

·        Kapashera area has 40 percent power theft. In recent months, BSES Enforcement teams have conducted over 50 raids and booked electricity theft of over 450 KW

·        Penalties of nearly Rs 1 crore have been imposed in the area

 

It is not uncommon for BSES’ enforcement team members to face resistance and hurdles, while conducting enforcement raids. However, this time the matter was different.  This time, BSES Enforcement Team was attacked even when they were accompanied by Delhi Police personnel on an anti power theft raid in South Delhi’s Kapashera area yesterday

 

This deplorable incidence took place when a joint Delhi Police and BSES Enforcement Team, after receiving specific and credible information, had gone to inspect Pawan Service Station and a 100 room residential complex in South Delhi’s crowded Kapashera area.

 

During the course of the inspection, the joint raiding team was attacked and brutally assaulted by a mob led by Jai Prakash (alias Maddi), Manoj and Suresh – who had gathered in the area. “Members of the mob, after using abusive language attacked the members of the team with sticks and stones and also threatened to kill them if they took legal action. As a result, two members of the BSES enforcement team sustained head injuries The irate mob also damaged the company vehicles” said a BSES official.

 

On being alerted, senior BSES and Police officials immediately rushed to the spot and prevented the situation from getting worse. Subsequently a FIR no 56/07 was registered under sections 186/353/341/332/323/427/506/34 related to obstructing public servant in discharge of their duties, voluntarily  causing hurt, wrongful restraint, assault, criminal intimidation etc at the Kapashera Police Station.

 

Based on the above FIR and investigations, the Police arrested two of the three accused. The third miscreant is absconding. The two were then produced before in Court and sentenced to Tihar Jail for 14 days.

 

According to a BSES spokesperson “There is over 40 percent power theft in the Kapashera area. In the last few months, BSES Enforcement teams have conducted over 50 raids and booked an electricity theft load of over 450 KW. Penalties of nearly Rs 1 crore have been imposed.
