Blood donation camps organized in association with the Indian Red Cross Society and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital
Delhi’s annual Blood requirement is 4 lakh units – only 50% met through voluntary donation
Blood is the elixir of life. Life depends on it. In India, it is also the elixir that is often in short supply. Playing their role as responsible Corporate Citizens, on the birth anniversary of the late Shri Dhirubhai H Ambani, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), oraganised two voluntary blood donation camps. While BRPL’ blood donation camp was organized in association with the Indian Red Cross Society, BYPL’ camp was organized in association with Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
The Blood Donation Camps saw an overwhelming response from BSES employees. “A total of 125 employees – cutting across hierarchy, departments and functions - came forward and donated one unit of blood each. Senior officials who donated blood included BYPL CEO Mr Ramesh Narayanan, BYPL Company Secretary Mr Suresh Aggarwal and BRPL Head HR Mr Alok Varma”, said a BSES official.
The entire paraphernalia for the Blood Camps, including trained doctors (totaling 27) was provided by the Indian Red Cross Society and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital respectively. Donor cards were also issued to these ‘employee’ donors.
Blood is medicine’s most vital natural resource, and it’s frequently in short supply. There is no substitute for blood – the lifeline of human existence. According to studies, Delhi’s annual estimated annual requirement for blood is around 4 lakh units. Of this only about 50 percent is met through voluntary blood donation.
According
to a BSES spokesperson, “Safe blood saves millions of lives
each year. It has been shown all over the world that regular,
voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation by low-risk donors is the
key to saving lives. We hope such initiatives, albeit small, will go
the distance to alleviate this shortage. We also appeals to
customers
to come forward and donate blood”
"Our BSES team members have always readily volunteered to donate blood. We are happy to see that every year the number of volunteers who donated blood in BSES keeps rising. We urge all our customers too to step forward and donate blood whenever possible”, added the spokesperson.
BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
