In line with Delhi Government “Green” tag for the 2010 Commonwealth Games and commemorating the “National Energy Conservation Day”, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) today launched a first of its kind initiative to recognize and facilitate those who use electric vehicles.

Under the initiative, BYPL will be offering free charge facility to owners of REVA – the electric car – at its various locations in Central and East Delhi. An agreement to this affect has been signed between REVA (the company that manufacturers electric car) and BYPL.

The first Charge Port location was inaugurated at BYPL’ 66KV Grid Store (near Hasanpur Depot) in I P Extension, in a simple but an impressive ceremony today. Those present on the occasion included Mr Ramesh Narayanan, CEO, BYPL, Mr Pavan Sachdeva, Head Marketing REVA, and senior officials from Delhi Government, REVA, BYPL and BRPL.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ramesh Narayanan, CEO, BYPL said “Energy conservation is very much the need of the hour. Working towards energy conservation is a step in the right direction to combat global warming. I am happy to observe that initiatives such as these, albeit small individually, but big collectively, can alleviate today’s concerns on climate and environment”.

“Over the next few months, more of these charging facilities will be installed at conveniently located BYPL premises. A similar initiative will also be rolled out in BRPL areas of South and West Delhi. The location of each of these charge Port are being carefully selected based on the customer data of electric vehicles users”, said a company official.

“This is yet another way for BYPL to show its concern towards energy conservation and contribution towards green Commonwealth Games. On the occasion of the National Energy Conservation day, BYPL is happy to be associating with REVA – a national manufacturer of electric cars with an international presence”, said Mr Narayanan.

Delhi registers the highest number of cars and their per capita usage in India. I sincerely hope that with the increasing popularity of less polluting electric vehicles, it is only a matter of time that the environment conscious Delhiites reduce their carbon foot print and switch to greener modes of transport. This will also help make the ambient quality of air better”, said Mr Narayanan.

By offering free charge facilities at BYPL locations till the 2010 Commonwealth Games to electric vehicle customers, BYPL intends to reinforce the benefits of going green and help Delhiites think global but act local to mitigate climate change.

“Conscious of its role as a responsible corporate citizen, BYPL is also looking to offer similar facilities to the users of electric two wheeler in the future. It is also looking at encouraging the use of electric vehicles amongst its work force”, added Mr Narayanan

“Besides the launch of the first charge facilities for electric cars on the occasion of the “National Energy Conservation Day”, BRPL and BYPL also sent energy conservation sms’s to over 5 lakh consumers” –, said a company spokesperson.

BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
