                                                                Press Release

BRPL’ New Year Resolution - “no interruption in power supply”

  • BRPL spends an additional Rs 1200 crores to procure power this FY
  • 46 % increase in average cost of power over the tariff order for FY – 2009-2010
  • 92 % increase in average cost of power procurement since 2002
  • BRPL CEO assures 24 x 7 power supply in the New Year

Having committed "no interruption in power supply" since mid-2009, BRPL has taken every conceivable step to ensure 24X7 power supply to all its consumers. While making these arrangements and taking a cue from the past experience and factoring in the last minute unforeseen constraints, the company is ensuring a buffer of 3-5% over and above the anticipated demand – whatever be the cost.

  • Infact, BSES is likely to incur an additional expenditure of over Rs 1200 crore to buy power during the current financial year.
  • "There will be no interruption in power supply in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games. We have made more than enough arrangements to buy power for the ever increasing demand. Actually we keep a buffer of over 3-5% of the actual demand when we arrange for power on a day-ahead basis," said Mr Gopal Saxena. “This shows the extent of our commitment to the consumers of Delhi”, he added.
  • The average cost of power this FY is likely to be Rs 3.72 per unit as against Rs 2.55 per unit which was estimated in the tariff order – an increase of 46 %.
  • During this period, fuel prices / mandated increases allowed by the CERC to the generators has also been factored in.
  • Meanwhile, the average cost of procuring electricity since 2002 has increased by a whopping 92%., whereas the corresponding increase in the retail tariff has been only around 17%.

BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
