200 KW of power theft unearthed in mass raids, Rs 42 lakh in penalties
- Unearths power theft of 2.5 lakh KW
- Books nearly 31,000 cases for power theft
- 345 people sent to jail
BSES has unearthed power theft of around 200 KW in mass raids carried out in Daryaganj and Bara Hindu Rao areas recently. A total of over Rs 42 lakh in penalties have also been levied against the accused. Besides domestic use, this stolen electricity was also being used for industrial and commercial purposes. The BSES raiding teams accompanied by Delhi Police and CISF personnel booked cases against 25 people under the provisions of the Indian Electricity Act, 2003.
Daryaganj’ Rang Mahal area
In mass raids carried out in Daryaganj’s Rang Mahal area recently, around 135 KW of power theft was unearthed. The raids carried out in the presence of Delhi Police and CISF personnel registered cases against 14 people and levied around Rs 27 lakh in penalties.
Bara Hindu Rao area
Mass raids carried out by BSES – once again in the presence of Delhi Police and CISF personnel – in the industrial and commercial areas of Bara Hindu Rao unearthed power theft of nearly 77 KW. A cumulative penalty amount of nearly Rs 15 lakh was levied against 9 persons.
BSES has intensified its drive against those stealing power. In 2008 itself, BRPL and BYPL have unearthed power theft of whopping Rs 2.5 lakh KW and booked nearly 31,000 cases in this regard. That’s not all. A total of 345 power theft accused (BRPL 151, BYPL 194) have also been sent to jail in 2008 for varied jail terms.
