BSES unearths power theft of 436 KW, worth 1.75 crores,

three arrested, FIR’s lodged

 

·        Five BSES Enforcement Team members brutally assaulted

 

In a joint operation with the Delhi Police, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) carried out a massive anti power theft drive in South & South-West Districts of Delhi. The drive targeted areas of Bapraula, Mundka, Najafgarh, Tuglakabad Extn and Khanpur and unearthed power theft amounting to a whooping 436 KWs, worth Rs 1.75 crores.

 

Maximum cases of theft of electricity were booked in Industrial and Commercial establishments. The major catch of the day was in Bapraula where the factory of Sushil Sharma was raided. The illegal industry manufacturing plastic bags was involved in an illegal theft load of 278 KW. 

 

Inspection team came up against heavy odds at this premise when the factory owner gathered his relatives and others and confined them inside the factory after locking the gates and assaulted the team brutally with lathis and bricks. They were finally rescued by the local police.

 

Five enforcement staff including the team leader Manager Ashok Kumar received injuries. Five Enforcement officials who were brutally assaulted were sent for medical check up and treatment at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and later discharged. The Manager O&M received cut injuries in the head and received stitches. An FIR NO: 1258/05 was registered in the Nangloi Police Station registered on a complaint filed by BRPL.

 

Three people including the owner of the factory Sushil Sharma were arrested by the local police. These people have been charged with grave offences under sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 353,323,332,342, 379 of the IPC and section 135 of the Electricity Theft 2005. Charges framed relate to rioting armed with deadly weapons, obstructing public servants from lawful discharge of duty and causing injury, illegal confinement and theft of electricity.  BSES has filed a total of 62 cases of power theft in the Special Court at Karkardooma, of which 28 are from BYPL and 34 are from BRPL

 

According to Mr Lalit Jalan, Member of the Executive Committee and Director, BSES “BSES is committed to stop power theft in Delhi, so that the honest customers can enjoy good availability of power. This case just goes on to show the kind of difficulties and adverse conditions, our officials have to face, while discharging their duty”.
