As Delhi gets ready to host the 19th Commonwealth Games, BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) have geared up to play their role as the host discoms.
After completing the work to create and strengthen its electricity distribution system at all the 12 CWG venues at a cost of Rs 74 crore, BSES discoms have now completed their state-of-the-art multi-pronged fool-proof arrangements at the CWG Venues to take care of any unforeseen power supply related contingency and ensure 100% power supply.
o Predictive Scanning using infra-red thermal scanners– Complete network from 66/33 KV downwards to 11KV are being constantly scanned and monitored for predictive failure. Among other things, BSES discoms have deployed infra-red cameras at their sub-stations to detect ‘hot-spots’.
o Dual-feed to all the venues – All CWG venues in BSES’ area have ‘double source’ power supply from different Grid stations. This is to ensure that if one source fails, there is no disruption of power supply to the venue.
o Dedicated power supply – All the Games venues have dedicated power supply for increased reliability.
o Disaster Management Group – A Disaster Management Group has been constituted. It has chalked out a detailed multi-pronged strategy to secure important BSES locations - like the Grid Stations and SCADA - catering to the Games venues.
o Maintenance of Grid-sub stations - An extensive second round of maintenance program at all the Grid-substations feeding the CWG venues is underway. It should be completed in the next few days.
o A dedicated team headed by an Assistant Manager will be stationed round-the-clock at all the Games venues to affect ‘changeover’ of supply on 11 KV inside the stadia, in case of any contingency.
o Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) – A brand-new fleet of Operations and Maintenance vehicles, manned by highly trained engineers, will be stationed near the Games venues and will be in constant touch with BSES’ SCADA Centres. In case of any eventuality, they will rush to the venues.
“BSES’ state-of-the-art Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system will play an important role in maintaining uninterrupted power supply during the Commonwealth Games. It will flag any abnormalities in the system and help in faster corrective action being taken”, added the spokesperson.
According to a BSES spokesperson, “We are determined to make the Commonwealth Games a ‘glowing’ success. To ensure uninterrupted power supply and to tackle any power related emergency during the 2010 Commonwealth Games, the Delhi Government had constituted a high powered “Emergency Response Team” (ERT) earlier in the year. Both BRPL and BYPL have been working in close coordination of the ERT and have implemented all their suggestions”, said a BSES spokesperson, adding ERT”s Coordinator and Associate Coordinator – Mr Subhash Chand Sharma and Mr Mool Chand Sharma respectively – are from BSES.
BRPL and BYPL, Delhi’s premier power distribution companies are committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all their consumers.
