According to Shri Arun Kanchan, CEO BSES, “The entire Bijli Gyan Abhiyan exercise stretched over a period of five months. As a initial step, BSES gifted Bijli Gyan CDs – its professionally made 10 minute Audio Video (AV) on energy conservation – to around 1000 private and government  schools in East and Central Delhi. The schools were then requested to screen the AV for their students. Thereafter, based on the BSES’ Bijli Gyan AV, three rounds of quizzes - mix of intra and inter school - were conducted for students of classes 5 to 12 – finally leading upto the declaration of the six winners”.

  • First Round.  Schools in partnership with BYPL conducted an intra school written quiz for their students. Two top scorers from each of the participating schools – totalling 146 (private school 94, government school 52) qualified for the second round.
  • Inter-School (Second) Round.  Based on their class, students were divided into three groups – Level A, Level B and Level C. Difficulty level of the inter-school quiz questionnaire varied depending on the ‘Level’ of the student and inter-school quizzes conducted at three different locations – depending on the location of the school. Thirty top scorers – from 23 schools (13 private, 10 government) qualified for the third and the final round.
  • Final (Third) Round. Amidst cheering students and teachers, the final oral round was organized by BYPL at its Karkardooma office. Of the thirty finalists – 15 each from government and private schools - over 50 percent (17) were girls. And that’s not all. Girls from government schools piped their counterparts from private schools, in excelling in this multi-round intra and inter school competition. Whereas 8 of the 15 finalists from the private schools were girls, in the government school category – this figure was even more impressive at 9 of the 15 contestants”, added Shri Arun Kanchan.

According to a BSES spokesperson, “We are enthused by the overwhelming response from schools and students alike to our BSES Bijli Gyan Abhiyan initiative. The success of the program has prompted us to extend the initiative to schools – again both government and private – in BRPL areas of South and West Delhi. We are sure, the schools here, will also show the same enthusiasm, as shown by schools in East and Central Delhi”.
