BYPL becomes the first discom to get CISF   

• BYPL becomes the first discom to get CISF
• A Company of 114 CISF personnel has been deployed
• CISF has the mandate to take an accused into custody without warrant and hand them over to the local Police

 The much awaited CISF battalion to assist the discoms combat the menace of power theft has finally arrived. BYPL has become the first discom, where this elite force is being deployed.

 To grace the occasion and to give CISF personnel a warm welcome, BYPL organized a simple but an impressive ceremony. Those present on the occasion included Shri Haroon Yusuf, Hon’ble Minister for Power, Shri Rakesh Mehta, Principal Secretary (Power), GoNCTD, Shri S P Singh, IPS, Inspector General, CISF (NS), Shri Sudhir Kumar, Senior Commandant of the 5 Reserve Battalion (Ghaziabad) CISF, senior government and BSES official.

 Welcoming the CISF Company, the Hon’ble Power Minister Shri Haroon Yusuf said “Deployment of CISF for controlling power theft in Delhi is a milestone. I am sure that the induction of CISF will help eliminate the menace of power theft in Delhi”

 Speaking on occasion Shri Rakesh Mehta, Principal Secretary (Power) said “I am confident that the CISF personnel will take this challenge in the same stride as they have always been doing” and added “CISF personnel will be working in tandem with the Delhi Police”

 A CISF Company comprising 114 officials will assist BYPL Enforcement Teams in their drive against power theft in Central and East Delhi areas. Under the CISF Act, its personnel may carry arms and have the mandate to take the accused into custody without a warrant and hand them over to the local police for further action.

 According to Shri Arun Kanchan, CEO BYPL “We are grateful that the first Company of CISF has been deployed at BYPL. In the last 4 years, BYPL has greatly reduced AT & C losses in its area - from over 63 % in July 2002, they have now been brought down to around 43 % - a reduction of 20 %.  We at BSES are confident that the presence of CISF personnel will further aid BYPL’s efforts to reduce power theft in the area.
