BSES officials assaulted by “power thief”
BSES officials were assaulted and abused by one Sareen Ahmed after he was caught red-handed stealing electricity by hooking from the LV main cables near his premises at 27/85, Vishwas Nagar in Trans-Yamuna area.
Sareen Ahmed, who claimed to be an office-bearer of the ruling party, first threatened the enforcement department officials and later assaulted them. He physically obstructed the enforcement department officials from video-recording the manner in which electricity was being directly stolen from the network by deploying “hooks”.
The enforcement department had caught Sareen Ahmed on camera while trying to remove the tappings (hooks) from the LV mains. A formal complaint (FIR) was lodged against Ahmed at the Farsh Bazaar Police Station for indulging in direct theft of electricity and for destruction of evidence besides creating hindrance to public servant in the performance of their duty in terms of Section 169 of Electricity Act, 2003. The complaint was corroborated with photographs, inspection report and relevant notifications.
A BSES spokesperson sought the co-operation of all its consumers to get rid of the menace of power theft. “Please inform us about any tampering or hooking activity in your neighbourhood. By helping BSES minimize electricity theft, you would ensure that you do not pay for the illegal usage of others.” The spokesperson emphasized that nearly 50 % of the power supply in Delhi goes unbilled.
BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers.
