New Delhi, August 07, 2005:
Press Release
Over 800 consumers apply for meter test
CPRI gives clean chit to BSES meters
Over eight hundred consumers who applied for the testing of their respective electricity meters since January this year were satisfied when results of the tests found all meters, except one which turned out to be “defective”, to be “accurate” and “running within permissible limits.” Interestingly the one meter, found “defective”, was an old electro-mechanical meter at a premise in Laxmi Nagar.
The meters were tested at the premises of the consumers falling under various BSES divisions like Chandni Chowk, Jhil Mil, Patel Nagar, Tagore Garden, Vikas Puri, Punjabi Bagh, Nizamuddin and R K Puram. These consumers had responded to BSES’s offer to get the meters tested in case of any doubt about their functioning or accuracy.
About seventy BSES consumers, who insisted for a third party inspection, got their meters tested by the Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), a premier Government of India agency. All meters tested by CPRI were found to be 100 % accurate and functioning within permissible limits. CPRI, which tested the meters free of cost, gave a clean chit to BSES meters. CPRI officials/scientists are available for all BSES consumers to get their meters tested.
A BSES spokesperson said that consumers who feel that their electronic meter is running fast can get their meter testing done by paying the meter testing fee, as specified by the DERC, at their division office. In case the consumer is not satisfied by the meter test result, they can get a re-testing done by CPRI and even if that does not satisfy them they can choose a meter on their own which is in conformation with the DERC specifications.
According to the BSES spokesperson, not a single electronic meter tested this year has been found defective which proves, yet again, the authenticity and technical superiority of electronic meters over electro-mechanical meters. Consumers need to pay the normal meter testing charges, which is Rs 50 for a single–phase meter and Rs 100 for a three–phase meter.
BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers.
