Two sent to Tihar Jail, Anticipatory Bail application of another dismissed for power theft

• Total power theft totaled 120 KW
• The accused had failed to pay cumulative penalties of Rs 45 lakh

BSES’ efforts to control power theft received a big fillip, when in three separate cases; Special Court sent two accused – Shayam Sharma (Village Gokul Pur) and Kshitij Aggarwal (Vishwas Nagar) to Tihar jail and dismissed the bail application of Manohar Lal (Paharganj) for cumulative power theft of over 120 KW.

Case I: In the BSES vs Shayam Sharma case, the Special Court, dismissed the bail application of the accused and sent him for judicial custody to Tihar Jail for 14 days. The accused - Shayam Sharma was caught stealing electricity of over 42 KW, by directly hooking from the BSES LV mains. BSES approached the Special Court, when the accused – Shayam Sharma failed to pay the penalty amount of Rs 16 lakh.

Case 2: In another case, the Special Court sentenced the Kshitij Aggarwal – the accused to judicial custody for power theft. The accused for was found stealing electricity of over 61 KW by directly hooking to the BSES LV mains. In this case also, BSES moved the Special Court as the accused failed to pay the imposed penalty amount of over Rs 23 lakh. The point to be noted is that the accused was present at the time of enforcement raid and accepted the inspection report.

Case 3: In the third case, the Special Court dismissed the anticipatory bail application of Manohar Lal, a resident of AB – 105, Gali Kumaharan, Prem Nagar, Pahar Ganj, who had been earlier caught by the BSES Enforcement Team stealing electricity of over 16 KW and fined Rs 6.30 lakh in penalties. Subsequently a FIR (47 / 06) was also lodged at the Nabi Karim Police Station.
