Eye Hospital at Pusa Road caught stealing electricity

Marriage Pandals, Kushth Ashram, Page 3 restaurants, Guest Houses, Shops, Factories, Apartment Complex, residential houses, Petrol pumps, Affluent people and now BSES has caught a hospital red-handed indulging in power theft worth crores.

In an enforcement raid conducted recently, a BSES Enforcement Team swooped down and apprehended Bharti Eye Foundation – a well-known eye hospital at Pusa Road, indulging in power theft. The hospital with state-of-the-art eye care equipment was found having a connected load of over 62 KW as against the sanctioned load of only 11 KW.

“Further investigations into the case revealed that the hospital had two meters – one was found burnt and only one phase of his other three phase meter was working. The other two phases of the meters were found bypassed. A penalty of nearly Rs 21 lakh is liable to be imposed on the hospital for Dishonest Abstraction of Energy (DAE),” said a BSES official.

Narrating the sequence of events, a BSES official said “Dr Bharti, the owner of the hospital, physically prevented the BSES team from carrying out the inspection, including taking photographs and recording evidence of meter tampering. He attempted to use his influence by lodging a counter-complaint with the police against the BSES officials. However intervention by senior police officers from the Patel Nagar Police Station helped BSES officials to finally carry out the raid. Once the raid was completed and the hospital was found stealing electricity, Dr Bharti agreed to pay the necessary charges/penalty.”

“Our deployment of stat-of-the-art technologies helped us detecting this case. Anomalies between the connected load and sanctioned load were flagged at our centralized monitoring cell”, said Mr Arun Kanchan, CEO BYPL.

BSES, Delhi’s premier power distribution company, is committed to ensuring quality and reliable electricity supply to all its consumers.
